SSD1327 Grayscale OLED Display Family
SSD1327-based 128x128 grayscale OLED displays with 16 shades of gray. The go-to controller for grayscale graphics, photos, and smooth gradients.
Say it to PAL
“Show a message on the screen.”
The code PAL writes
p.setVariable('message', 'Hello!');
p.log('Display updated');“Show the humidity on the screen as a bar.”
The code PAL writes
p.onSensorChange('qwiic-sht40', 'humidity', (val) => {
p.setVariable('humidity', Math.round(val));
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();When to pick it
Best when you need a larger display with grayscale graphics — 16 shades of gray enable smooth gradients and more detailed imagery than monochrome OLEDs.
Good to know
- Higher power draw than smaller monochrome OLEDs due to the larger panel and grayscale backplane.
About it
The SSD1327 is the standard controller IC for grayscale OLED displays. Supports 16 levels of gray (4-bit) for smooth gradients and more detailed imagery compared to monochrome displays. Available from Adafruit and Seeed in 1.5" 128x128 form factors. Excellent contrast ratio and wide viewing angle. Suitable for detailed sensor visualizations, small photos, and applications requiring subtle shading.
