Grove Base Hat for Raspberry Pi

Seeed's Grove adapter for the Raspberry Pi. Its microcontroller turns 8 analog Grove channels into I2C readings the Pi can use.

Say it to PAL

“Read the light sensor plugged into socket A0.”

The code PAL writes

const v = await p.read('grove-base-hat', 'a0_voltage');
p.log('A0: ' + v.toFixed(3) + ' V');

When to pick it

Use when an analog Grove sensor (light, sound, rotary angle, soil moisture) is plugged into the Base Hat's analog sockets on a Raspberry Pi.

Good to know

  • 3.3 V only: 5 V Grove modules are out of spec on this Hat.
  • Socket A0 carries channels 0 and 1; the sensor's signal is on the even channel.

About it

The Grove Base Hat for Raspberry Pi brings Grove sockets to the Pi's GPIO header: I2C sockets wired straight to the Pi's I2C bus, digital and PWM sockets on GPIO pins, a UART socket, and analog sockets. The Pi has no analog inputs, so the Hat carries a small microcontroller that measures 8 analog channels with 12-bit resolution and answers over I2C. Each channel is available as a raw count, a voltage and a ratio of the supply. The Hat runs at 3.3 V only; 5 V Grove modules are out of spec on it.

It is in our catalog, but nobody has checked it on a real board. It may not work yet. Its driver is written, but it has not been tested on hardware yet.

I2C address

0x04, 0x08

The catalog lists I2C addresses 0x04 and 0x08 for the Grove Base Hat for Raspberry Pi and does not record which one it uses. The address is fixed.
