Say it to PAL

“Keep a log of the temperature.”

The code PAL writes

p.onSensorChange('qwiic-bme280', 'temperature', (temp) => {
  p.log(`Temperature: ${temp}°C`);
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();

“Read everything it measures about the air right now.”

The code PAL writes

const temp = await p.read('qwiic-bme280', 'temperature');
const hum = await p.read('qwiic-bme280', 'humidity');
const pres = await p.read('qwiic-bme280', 'pressure');
p.log(`${temp}°C, ${hum}%, ${pres} hPa`);

When to pick it

Default for most projects needing temperature, humidity, and pressure. The all-rounder — good enough accuracy (±0.5 °C, ±3% RH) for greenhouses, rooms, workshops, weather stations.

Good to know

  • First reading after power-on is often wrong (sensor self-heating) — discard it.
  • Humidity accuracy is ±3%. Thresholds tighter than 3% apart are noise.
  • Pressure reading is absolute (not sea-level adjusted) — varies with altitude. A location at 300m reads ~978 hPa normally.

About it

The Bosch BME280 is a high-precision environmental sensor that measures temperature (±1°C), humidity (±3% RH), and barometric pressure (±1 hPa). Perfect for weather stations, indoor climate monitoring, and altitude tracking.

Facts

Tested

Tested on a real boardHigh confidence

We connected it to a Raspberry Pi, read it over its real connection, checked that it gives accurate readings through Palpable, and signed it off.

I2C address

0x76, 0x77

The BME280 Environmental Sensor answers at I2C address 0x76. A jumper or pin moves it to 0x77.

Current

3.6 µA

The catalog lists a typical draw of 3.6 µA for the Environment Sensor, copied from the maker’s description and not measured by Palpable.

Board size

25.4 × 17.78 mm

The Environment Sensor board measures 25.4 × 17.78 mm and stands 4.6 mm tall with its parts. It has 2 mounting holes. These dimensions are from the maker’s mechanical drawing.
