Grove Multichannel Gas Sensor V2

Four metal-oxide gas elements (NO2, ethanol, VOC, CO) on one Grove board with an STM32 that reports each as a raw reading over I2C. Readings are relative, not ppm.

Say it to PAL

“Tell me when the air gets a lot stuffier than usual for this room.”

The code PAL writes

let baseline = await p.read('grove-multichannel-gas-v2', 'voc_raw');
p.onSensorChange('grove-multichannel-gas-v2', 'voc_raw', (v) => {
  if (v > baseline * 1.5) p.notify('VOC level is rising: ' + v + ' (baseline ' + baseline + ')');
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();

When to pick it

Use for relative air-quality trends across four gas families (NO2, ethanol, VOC, CO), for example noticing cooking, solvents or poor ventilation. Not for measured concentrations or safety alarms.

Good to know

  • Needs a long preheat; the first readings after power-on drift heavily.
  • Not a CO alarm. Do not use it for life safety.

About it

The Grove Multichannel Gas Sensor V2 carries four Winsen MEMS gas elements, GM-102B (NO2), GM-302B (ethanol), GM-502B (VOC) and GM-702B (CO), and an STM32F030 that reads each through its ADC and answers over I2C at 0x08. Each channel is a raw count and a voltage that rise as more of the gas reaches the element. Seeed publishes sensitivity charts but no formula, so this is a qualitative 'more or less than before' instrument, not a calibrated gas meter. The elements need a long preheat before the readings settle.
