M5Stack IMU Pro Mini Unit (BMI270 + BMM150 + BMP280)
Sense motion, orientation, and altitude. A 6-axis IMU, 3-axis magnetometer, and barometer in one tiny unit.
Say it to PAL
“Tell me when it gets bumped.”
The code PAL writes
p.onSensorChange('m5-imu-pro', 'acceleration_z', (z) => {
if (Math.abs(z - 1) > 0.5) p.log('Bumped!');
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();When to pick it
Best when you need orientation, motion, OR a compass heading. The barometer also gives relative altitude. Overkill if you only need a simple bump/tilt switch.
Good to know
- Gyroscopes drift; don't integrate gyro alone for absolute angle — fuse with accel.
- The BMP280 temperature reads warmer than ambient (die self-heating) — it's for pressure compensation, not room temperature.
About it
The M5Stack IMU Pro Mini combines a Bosch BMI270 (6-axis accelerometer + gyroscope), a BMM150 3-axis magnetometer, and a BMP280 barometric pressure sensor on one Grove I2C connector — a full 9-DoF AHRS plus altitude. Good for orientation tracking, gesture/tap detection, step counting, and tilt-compensated compass headings.
