Arduino Modulino Distance
Measure distance accurately using Time-of-Flight technology. Great for collision avoidance or presence detection.
Say it to PAL
“Tell me when something gets close.”
The code PAL writes
p.onSensorChange('modulino-distance', 'distance', (mm) => {
if (mm === null) return; // nothing in range
if (mm < 200) p.write('modulino-buzzer', 'tone', { frequency: 1000, duration_ms: 100 });
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();“Keep a log of how far away things are.”
The code PAL writes
p.onSensorChange('modulino-distance', 'distance', (mm) => {
p.log(mm === null ? 'Nothing in range' : `Distance: ${mm} mm`);
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();When to pick it
Shorter-range distance (up to 1.2m) in the Modulino form factor. Use a VL53L1X for more range.
Good to know
- Same time-of-flight technology as VL53L1X — same limitations with glass, dark surfaces, and sunlight.
About it
The Arduino Modulino Distance uses a VL53L4CD Time-of-Flight sensor to measure distances up to 1.2 m (white target, indoors; about 450 mm for a dark or matte object) with high accuracy. Perfect for presence detection, level sensing, and robotics.

Facts
Tested
It is in our catalog, but nobody has checked it on a real board. It may not work yet. Its driver is written, but it has not been tested on hardware yet.
Current
18 mA
The catalog lists a typical draw of 18 mA for the Modulino Distance, copied from the maker’s description and not measured by Palpable.
Board size
41 × 25.36 mm
The Modulino Distance board measures 41 × 25.36 mm and stands 4.58 mm tall with its parts. It has 4 mounting holes. These dimensions are from the datasheet.
