INA219 Current & Voltage Sensor
High-side DC current and voltage sensor. Monitors power consumption of circuits up to 26V and ±3.2A with 1% accuracy.
Say it to PAL
“How much power is the battery giving?”
The code PAL writes
const v = await p.read('qwiic-ina219', 'bus_voltage');
const i = await p.read('qwiic-ina219', 'current');
p.log(`Battery: ${v}V, ${i}mA`);“Tell me when it starts drawing too much power.”
The code PAL writes
p.onSensorChange('qwiic-ina219', 'power', (power) => {
if (power > 5000) p.notify('High power: ' + power + 'mW');
});
await p.waitUntilStopped();When to pick it
Use when you want to monitor power consumption, battery voltage, solar panel output, or current draw of any DC circuit up to 26V.
Good to know
- Must be wired IN SERIES with the load — the VIN+ and VIN- pins carry the full load current through a shunt resistor.
- Default 0.1Ω shunt limits to ±3.2A. For higher currents, a lower shunt resistor is needed (requires recalibration).
- Measures DC only — not suitable for AC mains voltage.
About it
The INA219 is a high-side current shunt and power monitor with an I2C interface. It measures bus voltage (0-26V), shunt voltage, current (±3.2A with default 0.1Ω shunt), and power. Ideal for monitoring battery drain, solar panel output, motor current draw, or any DC power measurement. Four configurable I2C addresses allow monitoring up to 4 channels simultaneously.

Facts
Tested
It is in our catalog, but nobody has checked it on a real board. It may not work yet. Its driver is written, but it has not been tested on hardware yet.
I2C address
The INA219 Current & Voltage Sensor answers at I2C address 0x40. A jumper or pin moves it to 0x41 or 0x44 or 0x45.
Board size
25.4 × 20.32 mm
The INA219 board measures 25.4 × 20.32 mm and stands 10 mm tall with its parts. It has 4 mounting holes. These dimensions are from the maker’s mechanical drawing.
